Atmospheric pollution, or
air pollution, is the introduction of harmful particulates, biological
molecules or chemical molecules into the Earth’s atmosphere. Air pollution can
lead to disease and death in humans. It can also damage other living organisms
such as plants and animals by affecting the air quality and oxygen content of
the air.
- Accumulation: that which is accumulated; an accumulated amount, number, or mass.
- Acid Rain: rain that contains harmful chemicals that collect in the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned.
- Air: a mixture of nitrogen, oxygen, and minute amounts of other gases that surrounds the earth and forms its atmosphere.
- Anthropic: of or relating to human beings or their span of existence on earth.
- Atmosphere: the gaseous envelope surrounding the earth; the air.
- Burning: aflame; on fire.
- Carbon monoxide: a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas, CO, that burns with a pale-blue flame, produced when carbon burns with insufficient air: used chiefly in organic synthesis, metallurgy, and in the preparation of metal carbonyls, as nickel carbonyl.
- Combustion: rapid oxidation accompanied by heat and, usually, light.
- Contamination: the act of contaminating, or of making something impure or unsuitableby contact with something unclean, bad, etc.
- Effect: something that is produced by an agency or cause.
- Fertilizer: any substance used to fertilize the soil, especially a commercial or chemical manure.
- Fire: a state, process, or instance of combustion in which fuel or other material is ignited and combined with oxygen, giving off light, heat, and flame.
- greenhouse effect: an atmospheric heating phenomenon, caused by short-wave solarradiation being readily transmitted inward through the earth'satmosphere but longer-wavelength heat radiation less readilytransmitted outward, owing to its absorption by atmospheric carbondioxide, water vapor, methane, and other gases; thus, the rising levelof carbon dioxide is viewed with concern.
- Hydrocarbon: any of a class of compounds containing only hydrogen and carbon, asan alkane, methane, CH 4, an alkene, ethylene, C 2 H 4, an alkyne, acetylene, C 2 H 2, or an aromatic compound, benzene, C 6 H 6.
- Kill: to deprive of life in any manner; cause the death of; slay. Synonyms: slaughter, massacre, butcher; hang, electrocute, behead, guillotine, strangle, garrote; assassinate.
- Nitrates: fertilizer consisting of potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate. fertilizer consisting of potassium nitrate or sodium nitrate.
- Particles: a minute portion, piece, fragment, or amount.
- Visibility: the state or fact of being visible.
- Wasteful: given to or characterized by useless consumption or expenditure.
- X-ray: Often, x-rays. a form of electromagnetic radiation, similar to light but of shorter wavelength and capable of penetrating solids and of ionizing gases. such radiation having wavelengths in the range of approximately 0.1–10 nm.
- Youth: the appearance, freshness, vigor, spirit, etc., characteristic of one whois young.
